IFS Food Version 8 is set to be published in early 2023, following the deadline for mandatory implementation of Version 7.

The revision is in response to updates in the Codex Alimentarius and ISO 22003-2 requirements for product and process standards. Feedback from stakeholders on Version 7 will be considered, and changes will be made to requirements and the evaluation system, including revising the B rating. Clarity will be established regarding individual regulations, including unannounced audits, especially in case of failure.

The revision aims to increase emphasis on product focus and process approach. Some criteria have been adjusted to improve tracking of the audit trail. Products and processes will be evaluated more thoroughly based on risk-based product samples during audits. The term "assessment" will be replaced with "audit" in the future. Certification bodies must inform IFS Management GmbH within 3 working days of any changes affecting certification requirements and report cause research results within 10 working days. Annual Food Fraud Assessment and review of all IFS Food Standard requirements through internal audits will be mandatory. Chapter 6, Food Defence, will be integrated into Chapter 4. The updated Codex Alimentarius presents new challenges forr food companies, particularly regarding the required validation of the HACCP plan. The IFS Food Doctrine will be consolidated, and new software will be introduced to simplify reporting, especially for mandatory field completion.
