LRQA’s Melanie Siggs featured in International Aquafeed

Building resilient and responsible aquaculture systems

Melanie Siggs, LRQA’s Global Head of Seafood, has been featured in International Aquafeed, sharing her perspective on the future of responsible aquaculture and how assurance can help the sector respond to an increasingly complex risk landscape.

Drawing on more than two decades of experience across industry, NGOs, policy, research and assurance, Melanie explores why the challenges facing seafood cannot be considered in isolation. Environmental performance, human rights, food safety, climate resilience, technology, traceability and trust are increasingly interconnected – making collaboration across industry, government and research essential.

The interview also considers how assurance is moving beyond traditional compliance. While standards remain an important foundation, Melanie highlights the growing opportunity to combine assurance with technologies such as AI, remote sensing and digital traceability to identify emerging risks earlier, strengthen decision-making and recognise where good practice can be scaled.

Looking ahead, Melanie sees resilience as a defining theme for the future of aquaculture, with adaptable, innovative businesses better positioned to respond to climate change, geopolitical uncertainty, evolving regulation and changing stakeholder expectations, while capturing the significant opportunities the sector has to offer.
