The Global Food Safety Conference opened today in Tokyo. The opening session saw Mike Robach, Vice President Food Safety Quality and Regulatory Affairs, Cargill USA and GFSI Chairman of Board of Directors spoke about the future of food safety and how the GFSI is working to deliver against their commitment of safe food for consumers everywhere – the theme of this years’ conference.
“The food industry has the responsibility and accountability to produce safe food – we take our commitment to safe food for consumers everywhere very seriously,” said Robach. He spoke about how the GFSI is working on a number of key strategic imperatives including harmonisation and driving continuous improvement across global food supply chains.
“We want to develop a passport for food safety,” said Robach and spoke about how the GFSI is fostering collaboration between public and private sectors to make safe food for consumers everywhere. Robach also spoke about the GFSI’s ambition to scale up their own Global Markets Programme and increasing third party certification at national and global levels.
