Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU
Ensure your pressure equipment is safe and compliant
Protect your people, your reputation and your market access
The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) 2014/68/EU sets essential safety requirements for the design, manufacture, inspection and testing of pressure equipment. Meeting those requirements protects safety and performance. It also determines whether your equipment can legally enter the market.
Misclassifying equipment against fluid group or pressure and volume criteria, or selecting the wrong conformity assessment module, can delay market entry, invalidate CE marking and expose manufacturers to regulatory penalties, reputational harm and costly disruption. For pressure equipment in Categories II, III and IV, involvement from an accredited notified body is a legal requirement under the directive, not a choice.
Since Brexit, manufacturers supplying both GB and EU markets face a further layer of complexity. The 2014/68/EU directive governs CE marking for the EEA, while the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 governs CA marking for Great Britain, each with separate conformity assessment obligations.
LRQA is authorised to operate under both regimes, giving you a single partner for dual-market PED compliance.
