LRQA Principal Consultant for customised assurance at LRQA shortlisted for SOFHT award recognising excellence in the food industry.

Justin Rose has been nominated by Waitrose & Partners for this year’s SOFHT Awards in the Best Auditor category.

When Justin received his nomination email, he was surprised, “After the initial shock, I felt really proud to be recognised by Waitrose.”

The nomination described how he puts partners at ease during assessments, “Justin’s coaching style is exactly what we need to help us move forwards in our shop, we look forward to him coming.”

Justin started his career in the finance sector, which he credits with helping him understand the importance of delivering a first-class service to customers. When he decided to retrain in Environmental Health, it was his sandwich year with East Hertfordshire District Council that sparked his passion for food safety.

Following 17 years working in increasingly senior Environmental Health roles for councils in East Herts, Yorkshire and Cardiff, Justin moved into the private sector in 2015. This enabled him to use his skills to provide customised assurance services that add value to the organisations he works with.

Justin uses a coaching approach to support organisations to understand the requirements placed on them by legislation – helping them to comply and improve.

“Legislation can be quite complex, so I take time to explain not only the requirements to businesses but also the reasons for them. When people understand the reasons behind they requirements, they’re more likely to buy into the requirements and implement them.” He adds, “It’s not about making decisions for the business but giving them the tools to understand what they need to do and then support them to come up with their own solutions for how they can achieve that.”

The 40th Annual SOFHT Awards take place in London on Thursday 14 November.
