The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) today announced the release of the latest version of the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements, a document outlining what makes a good food safety system and enabling the benchmarking of food safety certification programmes. Version 7.2 focusses on improving auditor competency and covering the entire supply chain, providing FMCG businesses with an outline of requirements for a robust food safety infrastructure and explaining the step-by-step process for applying for a GFSI-recognised certification programme.
Commenting on this latest move by the GFSI, Stuart Kelly, Head of Retail and Hospitality Assurance at LRQA said, “This is a really positive step by the GFSI now that they have now looked at improving and benchmarking auditor standards to further support the integrity of food supply chains. It is also exciting to see GFSI alignment extend to retail and catering – areas that LRQA has been working extensively in over the last few years to drive standards, improvement and brand assurance.”
