Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS).

We are the independent auditor of the Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS).

ICATS is owned by the Institute of Corrosion and is operated through Correx Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute. The scheme is a comprehensive structured training scheme for the registration, training and certification of industrial surface preparation and coating operatives.

Companies who wish to apply for ICATS training must register with Correx. After acceptance, nominated employees then attend the ‘Train the Trainer’ course which is run by Argyll Ruane Ltd on behalf of the Institute of Corrosion. On successful completion of the course, these employees are then able to train their own colleagues. Trainers and operatives require re-certification after three years and renewal after nine years.

As the scheme auditors, assessors from LRQA visit the accredited companies at a mutually agreed date to ensure that the training delivered by the certified trainers has been carried out, recorded and certificated to the requirements of the Institute of Corrosion.

ICATS is mandated for highways work by the Highways Agency as well as by Network Rail, the Environment Agency and other bodies.
