The ResponsibleSteel™ Certification Process
In order to successfully complete the ResponsibleSteel certification, each site must undergo a detailed audit. This must be carried out by a certification body accredited by ResponsibleSteel. LRQA is one of the few organisations allowed to conduct these audits.
What is ResponsibleSteel™ ?
ResponsibleSteel, initiated and published by the non-profit organization of the same name, is the first global multi-stakeholder standard for the steel industry and defines a clear framework for responsible sourcing & production. In a ResponsibleSteel audit, steel-producing and steel-processing companies can prove that their production processes meet strictly defined standards.
These include a wide range of social and environmental criteria:
1. Climate change and greenhouse gas emissions
2. Water stewardship and biodiversity
3. Human rights and labour rights
4. Community Relationships and Enterprise Integrity
