European Directive for transportable cylinders and tubes.
2010/35/EU
What is it?
The Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive (TPED) is a European Directive (2010/35/EU) that applies within the European Economic Area (EEA) to manufacturers, authorised representatives, importers, distributors, operators and owners of certain types of transportable pressure equipment used for the transport of dangerous goods by road, rail and inland waterway.
What does it cover?
The TPED lists specific receptacles it applies to, for example:
- cylinders
- bundles of cylinders
- tubes
- pressure drums
- cryogenic receptacles
It also covers tanks used for ADR (International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) Class 2 gases, for example:
- demountable tanks
- tank containers
- tanks of tank vehicles
- tanks of tank wagons
- tanks of battery wagons and MEGCs (Multiple Element Gas Containers)
Six additional listed dangerous substances of other classes are also listed, including their valves and other accessories.
What we do.
The Directive states which equipment requires examination by a Notified Body. There are also certain methods of conformity assessment depending on the type of equipment. This is based on the provisions in the ADR.
We are a Notified Body for the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive. We have the capability to cover all aspects of the TPED's conformity modules, including:
- Type examination
- Quality system approval
- Product inspection and testing
- Periodic and intermediate inspection
- Exceptional checks
- Conformity reassessment
