Deep dive into priority areas of human rights risk and impact
Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIAs) are a tool to help companies get an in-depth understanding of human rights impact dynamics in their value chain.
Our HRIA methodology helps companies get a more nuanced understanding of key human rights risks and develop strategies for mitigation and remediation that are rooted in ‘on the ground’ insights.
As such, they support and enable effective human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD).
What are human rights impact assessments
HRIAs examine human rights impacts in relation to specific supply chains, activities, commodities, countries or projects. Where a full human rights saliency assessment typically goes broad – looking at human rights risks across a company’s value chain – a HRIA goes deep, seeking to provide nuanced insight into human rights impacts and root causes in a specific area. They often build on a saliency assessment or are undertaken in response to known or structural risk issues.
HRIAs support compliance with due diligence regulation and can help meet investor expectations and build stakeholder trust.
Our HRIA Services
LRQA has a defined approach for conducting HRIAs that supports companies’ human rights due diligence.
Stakeholder engagement
Our HRIAs build on meaningful engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including on the ground, to validate insights, develop effective mitigation strategies and identify potential for collaboration.
Action plan
We work with our clients to develop effective HREDD policies and ensure alignment with international standards and best practice.
Social impact
We assess current practice against key standards and benchmarks, including legal requirements, to identify gaps and future-proof your HREDD.
Research and analysis
We also compile in-depth research reports that look into specific hot spots that are relevant to your business. Often more exploratory in nature, these can be relevant in the context of new market or product development.
