Abstract

Reliable and representative core analysis data are critical input for static, dynamic and reservoir models. Core analysis is the only direct and quantitative measurement of the "intact" reservoir properties, and should provide the foundation upon which formation evaluation rests. In our global experience however, core data is undervalued principally due to: inconsistency across different laboratories, lack of industry standards, sensitivity to test methodologies and inadequate interpretation and reporting standards. This presentation highlights the pitfalls and implications of poorly performed core analysis measurements, suggesting some essential steps in order of getting it right first time.
