Lafarge Cement UK is a major manufacturer and supplier of bulk cement and related materials to the construction industry. We know the company well, being its certification body. Lafarge’s reputation is built on the quality of its products, certified to the latest British and European standards. Ongoing success depends on both our client’s manufacturing and import operations leading the industry. The health and safety of employees and stakeholders are the company’s top priority and the business is constantly innovating to improve processes and minimise its environmental impact and footprint.
Lafarge Cement holds certification to ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental management and OHSAS 18001 for safety. We were asked to support in three ways: enhance the knowledge of the company’s management systems for these standards internally; deepen the expertise and specialism of key employees; and develop and implement new, improved approaches to auditing and day-to-day inspection.
How we helped
Using our client’s documents and methodologies, we developed a bespoke course to benefit employees with environmental, health and safety and quality responsibilities.
Our Integrated Management System Lead Auditor training covered the ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 standards over four days. The course was held at our client’s workplace, with a 100% pass rate from the exam at the end of the training reflecting its effectiveness.
Delegates are now taking the knowledge and skills gained from this training into the field at sites around the UK. Lafarge Cement UK also runs an annual audit programme alongside us to make continuous improvements.
Benefits and results
- Building a deeper understanding of ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 standards internally, specifically the differences between them. Course delegates are now able to carry out audits across all three standards, not just their own specialist area.
- Developing the necessary skills to confidently implement auditing techniques at site and be involved in auditing for, and on behalf of Lafarge, at its multiple locations.
- Using appropriate tools and methodologies which fit Lafarge’s structure for an effective integrated management system (IMS).
