LRQA achieves UKAS accreditation for ISO 42001, strengthening assurance for responsible AI

Confidence in AI governance

Following a successful assessment process, LRQA, the leading global risk management partner, has been granted UKAS accreditation for ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for artificial intelligence management systems.

ISO/IEC 42001 is the world’s first international management system standard specifically designed for artificial intelligence, providing organisations with a structured framework to establish, implement and continually improve governance over AI systems. As AI adoption accelerates across sectors, the standard is emerging as a global benchmark for addressing regulatory scrutiny and growing stakeholder expectations around risk management, transparency, accountability and the ethical use of AI.

With UKAS accreditation now in place, LRQA can support organisations seeking initial ISO 42001 certification, as well as those integrating AI governance into existing management systems such as ISO 27001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Building on its connected risk management portfolio, LRQA combines deep technical expertise in AI risk with decades of experience in management system assurance, helping organisations go beyond compliance to manage what matters most.

Achieving UKAS accreditation for ISO/IEC 42001 reflects LRQA’s continued investment in developing specialist auditor capability and robust certification processes for AI governance. This enables us to support organisations already working with ISO 42001 as they strengthen their AI management systems, while also providing a clear and trusted route to certification for organisations beginning their journey. With accredited certification now available, clients can move forward with confidence, supported by an experienced partner focused on managing AI risk in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Achieving UKAS accreditation for ISO 42001 is an important milestone for LRQA and reflects our commitment to helping clients turn emerging AI risk into opportunity. This accreditation recognises our people’s expertise and gives organisations confidence that they are working with a trusted partner to build responsible AI governance, protect trust, and unlock value from innovation.
