Coming soon: FSSC 22000 version 7

The Foundation FSSC has announced that FSSC 22000 version 7 is scheduled for publication early May 2026, marking the next evolution of one of the world’s most widely recognised food safety certification schemes.

Built on ISO 22000 and sector-specific prerequisite programme standards, FSSC 22000 continues to serve as a GFSI-recognised certification scheme for organisations across the food chain. Version 7 reflects ongoing developments in international standards and benchmarking expectations, reinforcing the scheme’s global credibility.

A key driver for the revision is the publication of the updated ISO 22002-x:2025 series, which sets out detailed prerequisite programme requirements for different sectors of the food chain. These updates strengthen operational food safety controls and provide greater clarity across categories – developments that will be reflected within version 7.

The new version is also intended to align with the latest GFSI benchmarking requirements (v2024), ensuring continued international acceptance of FSSC 22000 certification. Public communications from the Foundation further indicate an increased emphasis on sustainability considerations and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals within the scheme framework.

Organisations currently certified to version 6 will remain valid until the new version is released. Following publication, a formal transition period is expected to allow certified organisations and certification bodies time to implement the updated requirements.

As 15 May 2026 approaches, food sector organisations should begin reviewing forthcoming guidance and assessing the potential impact of the revised prerequisite programme standards and scheme requirements. Early preparation will be essential to ensure a smooth transition and continued confidence across global supply chains.

LRQA will continue to share updates as further details are confirmed.
