BUILT AROUND YOUR ROLE
Built around your role in the supply chain
Your risks depend on where you sit in the project, so does our approach. We tailor inspection and assessment to the decisions you need to make, not a one-size-fits-all checklist.
Reduce inherited risk at handover
You live with project delivery decisions long after handover. Our independent, risk-based vendor inspection stops hidden quality issues, non-compliant materials and vendor shortcuts being embedded before commissioning, protecting long-term asset integrity and giving you defensible evidence for regulators, insurers and lenders.
Operators
Protect schedule, margin and client confidence
Across complex, multi-vendor supply chains, we focus inspection where risk can impact the critical path. By identifying non-conformances during manufacture rather than at site, we help you avoid costly rework, late-stage NCRs and delivery delays, with a single point of accountability that strengthens owner confidence at key stage gates.
EPCs
Accelerate acceptance, first time
Independent inspection recognised by EPCs, operators, financiers and regulators worldwide. Local inspectors who understand both global specifications and local manufacturing realities reduce misinterpretation, rework and repeat inspections, helping you avoid shipment delays and protect delivery commitments.
Manufacturers

Benefits of supply chain inspection services
Supply chain inspection services provide independent assessment activities aligned to client quality and compliance requirements. Tailored inspection programmes can help organisations improve supplier oversight, support project assurance and maintain visibility across key supply chain activities.
Where required, independent third-party inspection and customised reporting can also support informed decision-making and help organisations manage operational and project-related risks more effectively.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
What is 2nd party vendor inspection?
2nd party inspection is a supplier inspection service carried out on your behalf at a vendor’s premises. Acting as an independent extension of your team, LRQA’s quality site inspectors verify that materials, components and equipment are manufactured to your specification and purchase order, identifying issues during production, when they are cheapest and fastest to fix.
What is the difference between 2nd party and 3rd party inspection?
2nd party inspection is performed on behalf of the buyer, against the buyer’s own specifications and purchase order, protecting your interests in the transaction. 3rd party inspection is performed by a fully independent body against a standard, code or regulation, with no commercial stake on either side. Many buyers searching for third party inspection companies actually need 2nd party assurance: an independent expert acting for them. LRQA provides both
How do I choose a supply chain inspection company?
Look for four things: genuine global coverage with local inspectors near your suppliers; sector depth in your industry’s codes and standards; a risk-based methodology that concentrates effort where failure hurts most; and independence with a single point of accountability. LRQA combines all four, with supply chain audit and inspection expertise trusted by EPCs, operators and manufacturers worldwide.
What does a vendor assessment or technical audit cover?
A vendor assessment, sometimes called a supplier audit or technical audit, evaluates a supplier before you commit. The technical audit procedure typically covers supplier capacity assessment against current and projected workload, equipment and workshop facilities, material and product control, welding and fabrication procedures, personnel qualifications and the quality management system, giving you a detailed report to make an informed sourcing decision.
What do quality site inspectors check during a vendor inspection?
Our inspectors monitor supplier inspection performance during manufacture: witnessing material and mechanical testing, hydrotests and non-destructive testing, verifying dimensional and visual conformance against drawings and specification, reviewing documentation and traceability, and reporting progress against the production schedule, so non-conformances are caught in the factory, not at site.
What is a pre-shipment inspection?
A pre-shipment inspection is a final checkpoint before goods leave the factory. It confirms the quality and quantity of products conform with what has been ordered, including final inspection, packing verification and stamping, reducing the risk of rejected shipments and supporting smooth import and export processes.
How is risk-based assurance different from traditional inspection?
Traditional QC inspection services apply the same level of scrutiny everywhere. Risk-based assurance concentrates effort where failure would cause the greatest harm, critical-path equipment, safety-critical components and items prone to early-life failure, giving you better protection for the same budget.
Can supplier inspections be delivered remotely?
Yes. In most cases our supply chain inspection services can be delivered on-site or remotely using safe, secure technology, with the same rigour, evidence and reporting, and the added benefits of speed, flexibility and access to global expertise. One client saved more than 50% in inspection cost through remote delivery.
Which countries and industries do you cover?
LRQA delivers vendor and supplier inspection services worldwide, with local inspectors across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, including the UK, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. Sector experience spans energy and renewables, oil and gas, manufacturing, and construction and engineering.
