Ensuring safe food from foreign suppliers.
The US FDA Food Safety Modernisation Act (FSMA) aims to ensure food supply is safe by shifting the focus of federal regulators from responding to contamination, to preventing it.
FSMA Foreign Supplier Facility Certification
Overview
The FDA’s focus on import safety means importers are responsible for ensuring foreign suppliers have adequate preventative controls in place so food imported from abroad is as safe as domestic food. LRQA is working towards FDA-recognized accreditation to deliver food safety audits and Accredited Third-Party Certification under FSMA which introduced a Third-Party Certification voluntary program for the accreditation of third-party certification bodies. This includes conducting food safety audits and certification of foreign entities, including farms, and the foods they produce.
Why consider FSMA foreign supplier certification?
Our accredited FSMA certification under the FDA third party program can add market and competitive advantage to any business supplying into the US from abroad and help you verify supplier requirements under the Food Safety Verification Program and Preventive Controls rule. Certification can help you build trust and credibility that your business is fulfilling your responsibilities under FSMA. Additionally, if you know that the US businesses you wish to supply to are seeking VQIP participation, then FSMA foreign supplier certification can make you an attractive prospect.
Benefits of FSMA
