A new era for Occupational Health and Safety: ISO 45001:2018 is published.

The new international standard for occupational health and safety is set to increase global consistency to make workplaces safer and healthier for all.

ISO 45001:2018, Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, has been published today and is designed for organisations of all sizes, sectors and locations. It aims to reduce the 2.78 million work-related deaths and 374 million non-fatal work-related injuries and illnesses each year estimated by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

ISO 45001:2018 replaces OHSAS 18001; certified organisations will have three years to migrate to the new standard. The new standard introduces a framework that can be used throughout the supply chain to create a health and safety culture that will continually improve OH&S performance. ISO 45001:2018 is based on Annex SL – the same High Level Structure as ISO 9001:2015 (quality management systems) and ISO 14001:2015 (environmental management systems), which will make it easier for organisations using these standards to implement and integrate ISO 45001:2018 into a broader business management system.

With all the major ISO standards being revised, LRQA is at the forefront of communicating the changes. We offer a range of ISO 45001 services to support organisations worldwide as they adopt the new standard.
