Client challenge

Founded in 1980, Turboden is a global leader in the design, manufacture and service of ORC turbogenerators. This plant equipment uses state-of-the-art technology to produce heat and power from renewable sources, such as biomass, geothermal and solar energy. Electricity is also generated by recovering waste heat from industrial processes. Rapid growth in the demand for clean, efficient, reliable methods of producing electricity has seen the company expand quickly. Today, Turboden has more than 330 plants in 35 countries.

The introduction of ISO 9001:2015 offered a timely opportunity for the fast-growing manufacturer to review its existing Quality Management System (QMS). Our client wanted to do more than achieve compliance to satisfy stakeholders. Turboden also saw the potential to improve the organisation’s performance and increase operational efficiency, supporting further dynamic growth. As part of the transition plan, our client was particularly keen to make the most of two new ISO areas: the importance of organisational context and concept of risk-based thinking. These would help better identify and manage business risks and opportunities. Turboden approached us because of our leading accreditation expertise and long-term relationship with parent company, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the Japanese engineering, electrical equipment, and electronics giant.

How we helped

Our support included a gap analysis using our leading assessment methodology, training and auditing to ensure a seamless transition to ISO 9001:2015. The certification process also enabled Turboden to reorganise its internal processes. This helped the manufacturer demonstrate more clearly, to an increasingly demanding customer base, how their manufacturing process meant improved performance and consistently high quality products. Another positive outcome were new tools. Turboden uses these assets to conduct risk analysis and verify the true effectiveness of any actions implemented.

“From the very first certification audit through to the final assessment, LRQA auditors were always professional and impartial, and fully understood, in an efficient way, our organisation in the context of the requirements of ISO 9001:2015.”

Client comment

"LRQA provided great support during our transition to ISO 9001:2015. With the competence of their trained auditors and the tools they provided, such as the gap analysis, we were able to plan and implement a smooth and effective migration to the revised standard.”

Paolo Zonaro

Quality Assurance Engineer, Turboden

Powerful results

ISO 9001:2015 certification is key to Turboden’s long-term success. Our client has a QMS that is not only aligned with the revised standard, but also enhances the company’s unique dynamism and flexibility. These are two qualities which have led to rapid growth in recent times.
