Advancing Hydrogen Certification and Legislation: Insights from the SPE Hydrogen

Leanne Halliday, Territory Manager for Oceania and Global SME in Hydrogen at LRQA, delivered a compelling presentation during the recent SPE Hydrogen forum in Perth, Australia. Her discussion focused on the imperative for a transparent and consistent certification of hydrogen origins. Her expertise resonated with the audience, fostering a robust dialogue about the strategies required to attain this objective and the definition of "good" practices in this context.

The forum presented a distinctive and timely opportunity to gain insights into the advancements and hurdles within the hydrogen sector. It facilitated meaningful engagement with industry operators, consultants, regulatory authorities, and leading hydrogen experts, all united in their pursuit of realizing the full potential of the hydrogen sector in a manner that is both secure and sustainable.

Key insights gleaned from the forum underscored the necessity for further legislative measures to propel the sector forward, thereby harnessing the significant role hydrogen can play in advancing the global race towards carbon neutrality. Notably, we currently possess the requisite technologies, and there is an exciting new generation of hydrogen generation technologies in advanced stages of testing, promising improved efficiency.

While hydrogen isn't the sole solution for decarbonization, it plays a crucial role ready for implementation if we harness its potential.
