FDA updates rules on animal drug residues in food.

The FDA issued a final rule on tolerances for residues of new animal drugs in food.

The rule standardizes and clarifies the standards for determining, codifying, and updating tolerances. It also defines key terms used by the agency to determine tolerances.

The rule is to come into force 60 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register, which was not specified by the agency.154

The update has been in the making since 2012 and has benefitted from two public comment periods, with the responses taken into consideration by the FDA when developing the final rule..
