Launched in 1998, the Universal Feed Assurance Scheme set up by AIC trade assurances. Intended to encourage industry best-practice, members of the scheme now account for over 95% of commercial compound feed in the UK and Ireland. A requirement for many major supermarkets, the scheme works in conjunction with UK livestock assurances (Red Tractor Farm Assurance and Quality Meat Scotland).
What are the benefits?
Based on thorough principles relating to hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP), the scheme ensures producers work towards the highest possible standards. Completion provides businesses with Certified Company status, covering animal feed production and trade.
Access to AIC
Membership provides access to relevant AIC technical information, briefings and seminars. This includes use of agrisupply contracts for trade, online training modules and regularly updated UFAS updates.
The scheme can reduce inspection frequency from local authorities and trading standards, as they recognise UFAS members adhere to strict hygiene and processing guidelines.
