Arc Flash guidance
This guidance document is structured to introduce the concept of arc flash. The various components of the subject are described in detail. These components include the nature of an arc flash event, as well as its effects on the surrounding environment and any personnel operating in that environment. The methods used for carrying out an analysis are discussed in detail. The guidance document identifies the various mitigation techniques used to protect personnel and assets from the effects of arc flash. In summary, this report attempts to consolidate the subject of arc flash by identifying what an arc flash actually is, its cause, its impact on assets and human life, and the calculations required for a comprehensive arc flash study (as described in the various industry-recognised guides). It also provides some guidance on when a study should be submitted to comply with LRQA’s (LRQA's) rule requirements.
