Dynamic Positioning and Power Management awareness training
The need for specialized Dynamic Positioning (DP) and Power Management (PM) training has grown exponentially with the increase in deepwater activity and the influx of new and refurbished drill rigs and ships. LRQA’s clients have expressed concern for the lack of DP/PM experience due to the high demand to fill offshore drilling positions in recent years. It is common to find that only 20% of these positions have more than 2-3 years experience with drilling activities. In addition, even the most experienced crew joining the rig may not be familiar with the systems used on a particular rig.

Dynamic positioning closed bus configuration
This document provides guidance to clients on the use of closed bus-ties in dynamic positioning (DP) systems. The document is generic and is based on our extensive experience of DP installations and a consultation conducted with industry practitioners. The approach required by LRQA will be a risk-based process that produces an assurance case. An assurance case is a reasoned and compelling argument, supported by a body of evidence, indicating that a closed bus-tie system will operate as intended for a defined application in a defined environment.
LRQA doctoral candidate presents leading offshore wind research
Marco Sepulveda, an LR-sponsored Engineering Doctorate student with the Industrial Doctorate Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (IDCORE), is based in our Aberdeen office under the supervision of Dr Mark Spring and Prof Peter Davies. Marco’s Doctorate, which he will complete next year, focuses on wind turbine reliability. In recent months, Marco has presented papers and posters at a number of major industry conferences in collaboration with LR.
