Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

Enable the positive impact of sustainable palm oil with RSPO

The RSPO develops and implements global standards for the production and use of sustainable palm oil. These standards are based on principles and criteria covering a range of social, environmental, and economic issues related to palm oil production. The RSPO also provides a certification scheme for palm oil producers who comply with these standards.

The RSPO's mission is to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil, which is produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. The organisation aims to achieve this by promoting sustainable practices in the production of palm oil, supporting the development of sustainable supply chains, and raising awareness among consumers about the importance of sustainable palm oil.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)?

The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a not-for-profit organisation that was established in 2004 to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil products. The RSPO was formed by a group of stakeholders, including palm oil producers, processors, traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks, and NGOs, who recognised the need for a global platform to promote the production and use of sustainable palm oil.

RSPO is a standard which provides a set of principles and criteria for the sustainable production and sourcing of palm oil. This includes the protection of biodiversity and the rights of workers and local communities.

  • What are the benefits of RSPO?

    The benefits of RSPO are:

    Sustainability

RSPO helps promote the adoption of sustainable practices in the palm oil industry. It mitigates the negative environmental and social impacts of palm oil production.

  • What is the typical RSPO certification process

The typical RSPO certification process consists of several steps, these include:

Gap analysis - An optional assessment, conducted prior to the audit, whether by you or a third-party organisation, to identify any gaps between the organisation's practices and the requirements of the RSPO standard.

Audit - An audit takes place on-site where the organisation's compliance is assessed in line with the RSPO standard. If there are no major non-conformities, you'll receive your certification.

Promote your certification - Your certification demonstrates a commitment to internationally recognised best practices and continual improvement - helping you win new business and meet consumer demands.
