Overview
If you’re a PMSC, ISO 28007 certification with LRQA can help your organisation demonstrate to shipping companies that you provide the appropriate PCASP on board ships who will ensure the safety of their people, assets and cargo to protect against pirate attacks.
What is ISO 28007?
The increased threat to commercial shipping by piracy in the Indian Ocean and elsewhere has led to extensive use of PMSC that supply PCASP to provide security on board vessels navigating through high risk areas.
The decision to use armed guards on board ships is not taken lightly by shipping companies and should follow a thorough risk assessment after ensuring all other practical means of self-protection have been employed.
ISO 28007 was introduced to address the safety and legal implications of employing PCASP through a risk-based approach. It provides guidelines and sector-specific requirements that PMSC, who already comply with ISO 28000, can implement to demonstrate that they provide appropriate PCASP services on board ships.
Benefits of ISO 28007
Enhanced security with added confidence
ISO 28007 certification can enhance your organisation’s credibility by demonstrating that you provide appropriate PCASP services on board ships. It provides ship owners and other stakeholders with the confidence that you have a used best practice to address all internal and external issues relating to your PCASP.
Interrelationships and risk assessment
Through the implementation and achievement of ISO 28007 certification, your organisation can demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the interrelationships between the ship owner, risk assessments by the ship owner, and their intention to use PCASP on board the ship.
Improve efficiency and reduce costs
ISO 28007 certification can save your organisation time and money, explaining your capabilities to potential customers. Crucially, the risk-based approach in ISO 28000, ensures that resources are applied to reduce overall security risks.
