Learn about Responsible Plastic Management (RPM)

Tackle plastic pollution with a standardised approach to waste

Find out more about this service

Overview

Plastic waste ending up in our oceans is expected to nearly triple in volume in the next 20 years, reaching 29m tonnes a year by 2040 – the equivalent of 50kg for every metre of coastline in the world.

Launched in 2019, the Responsible Plastic Management (RPM) Standard is a global plastic waste management assurance programme, trust mark and online directory for organisations committed to tackling this issue. Independent certification demonstrates that your organisation has a robust approach to plastic management, helping you deliver a transparent credibility statement to your stakeholders. The standard has been designed to help you measure and manage plastic use responsibly, taking positive action to reduce, re-use and recycle plastic wherever possible.

Benefits

Green credentials

It’s estimated that over 8000 million tonnes of plastic have been made since 1950 – and that figure is increasing year by year. The RPM Standard helps your business show it’s committed to playing its part in tackling this ever-growing issue.

Brand reputation & leadership recognition

Demonstrate to your stakeholders and audience that you a responsible business. Protect your brand integrity by responding positively against a backdrop of increased public and political scrutiny on the environmental consequences of plastic waste.

Increased/protected sales

Driven by consumer demand and the desire to ‘do the right thing’, an increasing number of consumers and organisations are choosing to buy only from companies committed to reducing their environmental impact. Being certified by an independent certification body such as LRQA for responsible plastic management can give you a competitive advantage and increase sales. While the RPM Standard is a voluntary initiative, it will help provide credibility for your organisation among your customers and being listed in the online RPM directory can help you highlight your achievement in managing plastic use more effectively to your buyers and the wider supply chain.
