LRQA ISO Standards Update: ISO 45001 committee meeting set for September

The Project Committee responsible for the development of ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety), ISO/PC 283, last met in June to perform the initial review of the comments on the second Committee Draft (CD2) of ISO 45001.

Following this, the committee have now set the date for their next meeting to complete the review of all comments received against CD2 so that ISO 45001 can move to the next stage in the ISO revisions process, the Draft International Standard (DIS) Stage.

ISO 45001 will replace OHSAS 18001 which was first published in 1999 to meet the need of organisations where no international health and safety standard existed.

ISO 45001 is at the committee stage of development, which is the third stage in the standards development process but the first consultation phase. During this stage, successive CDs can be circulated until agreement is reached on the technical content of the standard.

ISO 45001 is scheduled for publication in October 2016 and ISO/DIS 45001 is currently expected to be published in October this year but as with all of the ISO revisions, this timetable is subject to change.

The next meeting of the committee will take place on 21-25 September 2015 at the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) offices in Geneva.

With all the major ISO standards being revised, LRQA is at the forefront of communicating the changes. We offer a range of assessment services as well public and in-house training courses, all aimed at helping to ensure that organisations worldwide have a smooth transition to the new standards.
