LRQA ISO Standards Update: ISO 28007-1:2015 published and transition arrangements announced

Following the publication of ISO 28007-1:2015 on 1 April, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) has announced the transition arrangements for all organisations currently certified to ISO/PAS 28007:2012.

What is ISO 28007-1:2015?

ISO 28007-1:2015 is a security management systems standard specific to the private maritime security industry, and replaces ISO/PAS 28007:2012.

ISO/PAS 28007:2012 was first developed in response to increased threats to vessels sailing through piracy-prone waters, and the resultant proliferation of Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSC) supplying privately contracted armed security personnel (PCASP).

Guidelines containing additional sector-specific recommendations are included in ISO 28007-1:2015, which ISO 28000-compliant organisations can implement to demonstrate that they provide PCASPs on board ships.

What does this mean for my ISO/PAS 28007:2012 certified organisation?

UKAS has announced that all organisations currently certified against ISO/PAS 28007:2012 must complete their transitional assessment before 1 April 2016. LRQA is in the process of undertaking its own transitional assessment with UKAS and once complete, all clients will be contacted to discuss the options for their own assessment.

For any organisation currently undertaking or considering initial assessment against ISO/PAS 28007:2012, certificates can be issued until 1 April 2016. After this point you must have completed the transitional assessment in order for your certification to remain valid.

Can you certify my organisation against ISO 28007-1:2015 now?

Yes we can but until UKAS have completed their assessment of LRQA (and any other accredited certification body), the certificate issued to you will be unaccredited.

With all the major ISO standards being revised, LRQA is at the forefront of communicating the changes. We offer a range of assessment services as well public and in-house training courses, all aimed at helping to ensure that organisations worldwide have a smooth transition to the new standards.
