Nanya Technology Corporation achieve AEO and ISO 28000 via a joint assessment process.

10/01/2011

Taiwan Customs and LRQA worked together to deliver this joint assement via a pilot scheme.

In November 2010, LRQA (Singapore and Taiwan) and Taiwan Customs delivered the first joint assessment for Nanyo Technology Corporation which resulted in the successful achievement of gaining LRQA ISO 28000 (Supply chain security) certification and AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) status according to Taiwan Customs.

The pilot scheme was undertaken by LRQA and Taiwan customs in order to:

  • demonstrate compatibility between ISO 28000 and AEO,

  • to find ways to streamline the process,

  • and ulitmately accelerate the AEO process.

The result of the pilot will be to formulate an assessment methodology and criteria for how to recognise ISO 28000 certification as a part of AEO authorisation documents in the future.  The pilot definately showed that a joint assessment was the way forward in delivering ISO 28000 and AEO.

Governments around the world are increasingly looking at ways to combat terrorist activity and prevent disruption to commerce and industry. AEO is one of these ways which was officially announced by Taiwan Customs in December 2009.  AEO awards the status of ‘reliable trader’ to organisations that meet the relative criteria.  More and more organisations are applying for AEO status to ensure easier future access to the international market and thus gain or maintain a competitive advantage.  Therefore, Taiwan Customs will require increased manpower to cope with this influx. Taiwan customs tends to also look to adopt ISO 28000 certification through a 3rd party supplier.
